One of the largest factors in Superman’s rise to power was the message he sent and the enemies he fought. With the US fighting a huge war against a great evil it took a great hero or superhero for that matter. In the early days of Action Comics Superman fought Nazis. Superman represented the best America  could offer; strength, and good morals. He fought the bad guys and taught valuable lessons at the same time (Kowalski 2015). Most of the writers were Jewish and the conflict with Germany was a very big concern for not only the Jewish community but the country together. These themes about superman taking on the Nazis were prevalent throughout the war and were the main antagonists in these early comics (tvtropes 2016). However Superman most of all created and Identity of “the good side”. The “good side” displayed proper moral, doing everyone’s part in society, and serving the people. Superman also developed an identity that related to the readers more personally as well. His masculinity and ability to “stand up for the little guy (Snyder 2016) was reinforced by similarities between superman and his creators. Clark Kent’s (superman’s identity cover) was a shy introverted man who was most f the time ignored by women (Coville 1996). This took after both Siegel and Shuster’s personalities. However Superman was a strong super-powered man who develops a relationship with “Clark Kent’s” reporter colleague “Lois Lane”. This symbolized the strength that inspires the writers and any other reader who finds the message relatable (Coville 1996). With this factor of Identity Superman didn’t just stand up to the big and bad guys, he also stood up to the social challenges for those with introverted personalities as well and any lack-of-confidence that these readers may feel.
